Support to the National Cancer Institute

As part of a major charitable healthcare project, ROSHEN began collaborating with the National Cancer Institute. ROSHEN Corporation has renovated and equipped a room intended for apheresis (collecting stem cells for bone marrow transplantation) and donor platelets.

The Corporation provided assistance to the Institute of Cancer with UAH 2.9 million. The room was renovated, the furniture and the specialized equipment were purchased with funds from the Corporation.

Not so long ago, it was a dream for the department of oncohematology of the National Cancer Institute to have such a manipulative room. The assistance came from Roshen Corporation that allocated almost UAH 3 million.

"In fact, the whole building is in a poor condition. The roof is leaking and, frankly speaking, there is a fungus. The renovated room had to be cleaned up to the brick. But the major maintenance was only done in this premise, we understand that this is the beginning,” says Irina Ponomarenko, the Social Development Director at Roshen.

Now a new standardized procedure for manipulation (processing) and freezing of stem cells will be carried out at the Cancer Institute, which will significantly increase the expected transplant outcome. In addition, the modern material and technical base will allow increasing the vitality of cells after defrosting up to 95% according to international standards.

"We are very grateful to Roshen Corporation for supporting and spending money on this project. It is very fundamental to us. This is probably the first significant step in the future of the transplantology at the Institute, which we imagine and need," commented Eugen Kushchevyy, the hematologist at the Department of Oncohematology of the National Cancer Institute.
